Make an Informed Decision with our Guide to Solar Power
Updated: May 17, 2019
Residential solar systems are a fantastic way in which households can save money and reduce their impact on the environment. With the recent announcement of the Victorian Government Solar Rebate, solar has never been more affordable. However, it is still important to have a general understanding on solar systems before agreeing on any deal. We at Spectrum29 believe if you are more informed on the process, then you can make a smarter decision for your household. At Spectrum29, we’re more than happy to answer all your questions. Here’s are the basics on how your system will work for you:
The Solar Basics
Residential solar systems harness energy from the sun via the PV panels on your property. Essentially, this energy will be used to complement your electricity usage from the grid when it passes through the system we install.
In many cases, a residential solar system won’t replace your normal electricity supply entirely. Instead, it will draw energy from the sun and form the bulk of your electricity instead, often leading to a credit. As is to be expected, the longer day-lengths will be approximately equalled by the shorter day-lengths, giving a substantial yearly decrease in your electricity bill. For relatively smaller properties, residential solar systems still make sense. For example, if your property is small enough to benefit from Spectrum29's standard 5 kW system, it will do the following:
· On a sunny or overcast day, the sun’s rays will penetrate the solar system’s panels to generate DC electricity.
· The DC electricity will then convert to usable AC via the solar system’s inverter.
· This AC electricity will then be used to directly power the appliances in your property, with surplus electricity supplied back to the grid, earning you credit.
· During the night, any electricity used by your home will come directly from the main grid, or a battery if you have one installed.
The quality of your electricity will remain the same
While the bulk of your electricity will be coming from a renewable source, it is important that we don’t assume it is of a lesser standard than the main grid. Once the UV rays from the sun are transformed into usable AC electricity through our reliable systems, it will still perform the exact same function as your mains supply. Essentially, electricity in the main grid is supplied from various sources, both renewable and non-renewable.
Maintaining residential solar systems requires little to no maintenance
Although residential solar systems are still a niche product compared to traditional energy, they require little to no maintenance. It is important to note that just because this is a relatively new concept, it doesn’t mean that quality or reliability should be compromised. At Spectrum29, we provide industry-leading warranties for your peace of mind.
